Minnesota Farm Sanctuaries Provide Safe Haven for Animals
Published by Minnesota Veg Living
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, an animal advocate in California began cold calling farmers in the Midwest. In the midst of widespread animal exterminations due to supply chain disruptions, the advocate’s goal was to save animals by connecting farmers with sanctuaries. Some said yes. An Iowa farmer relinquished two 7-week-old piglets who otherwise would have suffered a brutal slaughter at an early age. Farmaste Animal Sanctuary in Lindstrom, Minnesota, welcomed these two piglets to their new home and named them Phoebe and Charlotte.
According to Farmaste Founder Kelly Tope, “When Phoebe and Charlotte went outside for the first time, it was one of those moments that I’ll cherish and hold on to forever.”
